Marilyn Vanstone was born and lived in Edmonton, Alberta until 1991 when she moved to Chilliwack, British Columbia. Oil painting is Marilyn’s medium of choice now but it hasn’t always been, Marilyn’s sewing passion prompted her own line of Teddy Bears, uniquely hand crafted out of re-purposed fur coats.
Pursuing a passion for fashion design at Fraser Valley College, eventually lead to the creation of Limelight Dance Fashions, where she focused on the creation of the unique designs of Jazz & Ballet costumes and Ballroom dresses featured in productions across the province.
Moving to Ontario in 2002 Marilyn’s creative passion turned to oil on canvas. With a desire to pursue the craft, she studied Oil Painting with Kay Crabtree of Beamsville, and Jan Yates of Grimsby, two of Niagara’s well-known artists.
Marilyn’s work incorporates plein air landscapes, direct and indirect painting techniques, and customized colour palettes. Featured subjects include Niagara Vineyard’s, Mazatlan Beaches, Conservation areas, Architectural buildings & features to name a few. Marilyn has sold several of her pieces to collectors spanning North America, and her artwork has been exhibited in Edmonton, Toronto, Stoney Creek and Mazatlan.
Wintering on the “Pearl of the Pacific”(Mazatlan, Mexico) has certainly offered many subjects to be captured on canvas, her easel a dedicated travel companion, is never far from her side. When back in the Niagara Region, Marilyn enjoys quality time with friends and family and all the region has to offer.
